Festival organizers are working with various community and university partners to plan the 2013 Green Lens Environmental Film Festival from April 20-25, 2013. The Green Lens Environmental Film Festival will encourage people to learn more about the environment, while exploring DeKalb’s green spaces and local businesses.
The goal of this festival is to provide engaging cultural experiences for people of all ages. Activities are being designed to engage young children, families, adults, senior citizens, educators, business leaders, STEM professionals, as well as, NIU students, faculty and staff.
One of the larger events being planned is a “Green Night Out” which will be located in downtown DeKalb. Downtown businesses will provide specials to festival patrons, as well as holding environmentally-themed lectures and hands-on activities. This is a great opportunity for businesses to share how they are “greening” DeKalb.
Businesses outside of the Downtown DeKalb area are encouraged to participate by providing informational materials about green practices that could be placed at the Environmental Fair that will be in the Egyptian Theatre.
We are also seeking donations from community partners, both in the form of cash and in-kind goods that will go to support the operating costs of the festival. The in-kind donations are to be used for door prizes and as raffle prizes where the proceeds will go to support the operating costs for the 2014 festival.
The Green Lens Environmental Film Festival is looking for partners to support and promote the this large community event. Specifically, we are seeking student organization and departmental aid in getting the word out to faculty, staff, and students that we are seeking film submissions and partners to plan events during this festival. We would also like to invite you to facilitate festival participation through including information on your website, in your organization or department’s newsletter, or by providing volunteers. If this is something your department or student organization is interested in pursuing, please contact one of the festival organizers via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
