Mindfulness is a skill that enables your mind and body to be fully present in the moment in order to manage thoughts and emotions like stress, anxiety and depression. NIU Libraries Special Collections and Archives

NIU Libraries is offering three (3) student scholar fellowships of $500 each from the Horatio Alger Society and Pick-Laudati endowments. These awards support research projects based on the Rare Books and Special Collections holdings at NIU Libraries. Applications for the fellowships are due April 15, 2024. The Office of Student Engagement and Experiential Learning is selecting 10-15 graduate student judges for the Conference on Undergraduate Research and Engagement (CURE) on April 30th, 2024. This is a professional development opportunity through which graduate students will gain valuable training and experience geared towards assessing undergraduate research accurately and constructively. Selected applicants will participate in a 2-hour training to prepare them to serve as a judge, including learning valuable skills in providing feedback and culturally informed and respectful engagement. Benefits for students include a complimentary luncheon provided by the NIU Foundation during CURE, relevant experience for professional portfolio, LinkedIn Badge (Undergraduate Research Judge), and a line on their curriculum vita: “Selected as judge for the 2024 NIU Conference on Undergraduate Research and Engagement.” Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis through March 22. The last day for May graduates to submit a Request for Oral Defense Form is March 8, 2024. The last possible day for May graduates to hold an Oral Defense is March 29, 2024. The last day for May graduates to submit the Results of Oral Defense Form and upload the post-defense version of their thesis or dissertation is April 5, 2024. My major is industrial and systems engineering. I chose this course of study because I am fascinated by the intersection of engineering, business and efficiency. Industrial and systems engineering provides a comprehensive approach to solving complex problems within various industries, allowing me to optimize processes, improve systems and make meaningful impacts. I am drawn to the diverse range of skills this field offers, from mathematical modeling to organizational behavior, and I believe that this background will equip me to address the challenges and enhance the efficiency of modern systems and industries.
