About Us - NIU - Green Team

The NIU Green Team was formed to help the university evolve into a more sustainable campus by instituting environmentally-sustainable policies and practices that promote responsible stewardship of existing resources and the environment.

A team of faculty, staff, and select students was created from different departments throughout campus. This diverse group of individuals creates an integrative approach to tackling sustainability on campus.

Members of the Green Team have contributed to sustainability initiatives such as energy efficiency improvements, water conservation, recycling expansion, and sustainable transportation. These initiatives not only reduce NIU's carbon footprint, but also save the university money and reduce resource consumption and waste.

Successful projects include battery collection/recycling and recycling pens/pencils/markers. Some of the projects initiated by the Green Team have been expanded by different departments such as Environmental Health and Safety and the Institute for the Environment, Sustainability, and Energy.

All faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend the Green Team Committee meetings on the first Wednesday of February, April, June and August, October, and December in Holmes Student Center, Room 306, 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
