  1. Complete the FAFSA by March 1 (priority filing date).
    • NIU's School Code is 001737
  2. Check your NIU e-mail account for important messages from the NIU Student Financial Aid Office.
  3. Check your MyNIU account for awarding to be applied to your Bursar account.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants are available to students with exceptional financial need, those with the lowest Expected Family Contribution (EFC) numbers. H3>Eligibility Requirements

To receive the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, the student must:

  • Be a first-time undergraduate student
  • Be enrolled full time
  • Have significant financial need (as determined by the Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) and FAFSA)

Grant Funds

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant awards range from $100 to $4,000 a year.

Funds are determined based on:

  • Your financial need (as determined by the FAFSA and EFC)
  • The amount of other aid that a student receives
  • The amount of funds that the University has available
  • When you apply (this is why filing by the priority date of March 1st is so crucial!)
