MAP Grant To Do List:
- Complete the FAFSA by March 1 (priority filing date).
- NIU's School Code is 001737
- Check your NIU e-mail account for messages from the NIU Student Financial Aid Office.
- Check your MyNIU account for awarding to be applied to your Bursar's account.
Illinois Monetary Award Program (MAP)
Illinois MAP Grants are need-based grants and may be used for tuition, and mandatory fees only.
Eligibility Requirements
For students to receive the MAP Grant they must:
- Be an Illinois resident
- Be an undergraduate student
- Not have earned a bachelor's or professional degree prior to the award
- Be enrolled in a minimum of 3 hours per semester
- Demonstrate financial need (based on information provided on the FAFSA)
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress as determined by the University
- Not be in default on any student loans or owe a refund on any state or federal grants
Grant Funds
The award amounts for each student are dependent on:
- Calculation of Financial Need
- Cost of tuition and mandatory fees
- Number of hours enrolled
- Funding for the program

Awards can ONLY be applied to tuition and mandatory fees.
