Junior Chamber Music Workshop
Ages: 8 - 15
Sight-reading Party: June 14, 2018 5:45 - 6:45 p.m.
Workshop: June 25 - 28, 2018 10 - 11:30 a.m.
Young string and woodwind players have fun learning and rehearsing duets, rounds, or quartets, based on their level and experience. Students refine reading skills, learn more about playing music with others, and gain listening and leadership skills. Final day recital is at 11 a.m. in the Concert Hall. The workshop begins with a sight-reading party on June 14 from 5:45 - 6:45 p.m., when students will join fellow musicians for lights snacks and begin reading their music. There is a final day recital at 11 a.m. in the Concert Hall.
Auditions: Auditions will take place on May 9. To reserve an audition time, musicians must submit a registration form with the $15 non-refundable registration fee no later than April 30. For the auditions, be prepared to play two short contrasting pieces and a 1-2 octave scale. You will also be asked to sight-read a simple piece. The workshop is limited to 12 players.
Because of the collaborative nature of preparing chamber music for performance, 100% attendance is required at all rehearsals and the recital. Please check your schedule before auditioning.
Criteria for acceptance: Performance level, space in the workshop, and the availability of compatible group members on complementary instruments are all considerations for admission. Those who are admitted will be informed within a week of the audition and are expected to pay the balance at that time.
