
January 12, 2013: Congratulations to the winners of this year's talent auditions! They are Alyssa Leston (violin), William Jiang (violin), and Christine Ryzhov (violin) in the Junior Division and Leo Thomas O'Malley (violin), Allison Kozinski (piano), and Chance Hostetler (piano) in the Senior Division. They will be performing at the Honors Recital on February 16 at 1:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall. It was a great competition this year; thanks to everyone who auditioned.
November 5: The winner of the 2012-2013 Concerto Competition is Serena Harnack. Serena is 14 years old and attends St. Francis School in Wheaton. Her piece was Concerto No. 4 in d minor, Opus 31, 4th Movement, by Vieuxtemps. Serena will perform this piece with CSA Sinfonia on February 20.

Spring 2013
Registration is open for spring lessons, ensembles, and classes! All those who were registered in fall received a re-registration packet in December.
New Parking Meters on north side of Music Building
Parking just got a little easier for students attending lessons and classes in the Music Building before 7 p.m. on weekdays. There are 12 new metered spots across from the Music Building on the Lucinda Ave. side. These parking spots are on the east side of the parking lot. Parking is $1.00 an hour.
National Endowment for the Arts Grant Awarded
The community school has received a second grant from the National Endowment for the Arts! The $10,000 award is for the NEA's Arts Education in American Communities Initiative and will be used to support and enhance activities planned in 2012 and 2013. Barnes & Noble Bookfair/Recital
More than 60 students performed at the DeKalb Barnes & Noble Store on December 1. Thank you to the students and teachers who participated! The community school received a check from the store for $401, which was a percentage of the purchases made using a special voucher during the weekend. These funds will be used for the scholarship programs.
Performathon 2012 Update: The event on March 10 was a triumph! Four wonderful hours of music and lots of fun activities made for a wonderful day. To date, we have raised $6,500! hank you to everyone who made this event such a great success.
Summer camps have been scheduled for 2013. Theatre Arts Camp Junior is July 7 - 12 and Theatre Arts Camp Senior, Visual Arts Camp, and NIU Jazz Camp are July 14 - 19. We had a great year in 2012, with a total of 329 campers on campus. Visit us on Facebook!
