Biodiversity and Environmental Restoration

Planet Earth is the only habitat we have. One of the biggest challenges of the 21st century is ensuring its ability to support current and future generations. You can help meet this challenge by pursuing the biodiversity and environmental restoration emphasis (available for the B.S. only). You'll learn about processes that affect biodiversity at all levels, from molecules to ecosystems.

Internships

You'll have access to internships with ecological restoration companies, forest preserve districts, state agencies, animal rehabilitation facilities and zoos, such as:

Research

With our range of active faculty research labs, you'll have many options for conducting research that aligns with your interests.

You'll also have the unique opportunity to participate in research at the Nachusa Grasslands, a living laboratory for learning about the effects of restoration efforts in different habitats.

You'll have the opportunity to study abroad in Madagascar and learn about international conservation efforts. You can also go on outdoor adventures and join eco-conscious student groups, including:
