My Story:

I graduated in May 2012 with honors from Triton College with Associate in Applied Science Degree in Engineering Technology. While at Triton College I was Vice president of service for the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, Chapter Chi Zeta. This position helped me develop my communication and leadership skills, and become a more diverse person.

I chose NIU because the emphasis it has on leadership. At NIU students are not just numbers, they matter and they get the special attention they need. While pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial and Management Technology, I will be involved in a various set of activities. I currently work with the Huskie Service Scholars program as a STEM Outreach intern. This position gives me the opportunity to expose young children to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. It makes me happy when I am able to put a smile on children's faces after they program their own robot or build from scratch a mini hot air balloon. For this same reason, I joined the Society of Women Engineers NIU chapter. I now have the chance to spent time with young girls, talking about what engineering is, building cool gadgets, and making a positive difference in their lives.

Being a Northern Lights Ambassador gives me the chance to inspire others and show them how many great opportunities NIU has to offer. As an NLA, I want to motivate other students to get involved in campus activities, but stay successful in their major. I want to help my fellow students reach their goals. I want to show them that anything is possible if we put our mind to it. At the end of the day, if I can imprint that sense of positivity in at least one student, then I can say I made a difference.

Overall sharing my knowledge and experience with others is part of who I am. Graduating from NIU will give me the chance in life to be a successful individual and a great leader. I will be able to obtain a great job, work as an Engineer and continue learning in my field. I will also be able to give back to the community, volunteer my time to educate children and help them discover how much fun school can be. I believe I have the passion to make a difference and influence children and guide them. I want to inspire, motivate, help change lives and make dreams come true.
