Learning Communities

Themed Learning Communities (TLCs)

A TLC is a group of 2-4 courses taken by the same set of approximately 25 students over the course of a semester. These courses are taught in a way that will allow you to explore a common theme across all of the courses in your TLC. Whether you are a student looking for a TLC or an instructor, advisor or administrator who wants to learn more about starting a new TLC, we can help.

Living-Learning Communities (LLCs)

NIU offers several Living-Learning Communities (LLCs) in our residents' halls. LLCs bring students together who enjoy the similar interests, allowing them to strengthen their connections with faculty and each other during their years at college. Our office supports the Leadership and Service Community LLC. To learn more about LLCs, visit the Housing website.
