Police are investigating an off-campus altercation involving a number of individuals at the Travel Inn, 1100 block of Lincoln Hwy., in DeKalb during the noon hour. Several people are in custody and are being questioned related to this incident.

As a result of an investigation, DeKalb Police have charged 12 individuals in association with Friday’s altercation at the Travel Inn. The charges range from mob action to aggravated discharge of a firearm.
The DeKalb City Police Department was assisted by Northern Illinois University Police, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, Sycamore Police Department and the DeKalb County States Attorney’s Office.

|Incident||Statement regarding first responder activity on Carroll Ave.|

At approximately 3:17 p.m. Kishwaukee Hospital confirmed the death of an unidentified white female in her late teens/early twenties, who fell in an apparent suicide from the Parking Deck at Carroll Avenue. First responder emergency personnel provided CPR on-site, and she was transported via ambulance to Kishwaukee Hospital. The victim was described as having brown hair, 120-130 lbs and wearing a multi-colored jacket and blue long sleeved shirt.

Respecting the family's request that NIU police not release the identify of the victim of this afternoon's apparent suicide, NIU can confirm that the victim is not an NIU student nor employed at the university.

At approximately 3:17 p.m.Kishwaukee Hospital confirmed the death of a female transported after an apparent suicide where she fell from the Parking Deck at Carroll Avenue. Counseling resources are available to NIU students, faculty and staff. To access NIU after-hours and weekend counselors, students should contact 815-753-1212, the non-emergency number for the NIU Police, and request to be connected to the student on-call counseling staff.
During regular business hours, students should contact the NIU Counseling and Student Development Center located in the Campus Life Building, Room 200, 815-753-1206. Faculty and staff should contact the Employee Assistance Program located in the Holmes Student Center, Room 709, 815-753-9191.
|Incident||Crane Drive Armed Robbery|

|Location:||900 Block Crane Drive, DeKalb|
|Details:||Approximately 9:51 p.m. Thursday evening an armed robbery occurred in the 900 block of Crane Drive near University Plaza. Two female NIU students reported to NIU Police that a male subject approached them on Crane Drive, displayed a hand gun and demanded that the victims give him their purses.
The victims reported to police that the suspect then fled the scene, heading east toward Russell Road and then proceeding north on Russell Road toward Greenbrier Road. The victims reported to police no injuries resulting from the attack.
|Offender Description:||The offender is described as an African-American male, approximately 6-0 in height with a slender build and short-cropped hair. The offender reportedly was wearing a black shirt and long, dark blue basketball shorts.|
