If you need housing arrangements because of a disability, discuss this with a DRC coordinator. Students should indicate on the NIU Housing application that they need accommodations for a disability. Students must comply with all University Housing timelines. 

Housing & Dining Accommodations and Modifications

Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

Rooms have been adapted with visual alerting devices such as fire alarm lights, telephone lights, and doorbell lights throughout the Residence Halls.

Students with Physical/Mobility Disabilities

Currently, accessible rooms are located in Neptune West, Stevenson Towers, and a few rooms in Grant Towers.

Students with Visual Impairments

Neptune Hall, a centrally located residence hall, may be preferred by students with visual impairments.

Single Room Requests

Other housing accommodations are available in addition to what is listed above, such as single rooms. Students seeking single rooms due to a disability should contact the DRC.

If you need assistance for emergency evacuation, contact your Community Advisor (CA) and Hall Director.
