Equipment For Deaf/Hard Of Hearing
In compliance with federal and state regulations, NIU has assistive listening devices available for students, faculty/staff, and guests. These devices include a videophone/VRS phone, closed captioners (CC), and assistive listening systems (FM systems).
Video Relay Service / Videophone
- Founders Library - 1st floor Specialized Study Room - provide Photo ID to receive key for room from front desk
- DRC office during regular business hours
Closed Captioners
- Closed captioned TV in the lounge of the Holmes Student Center
- Closed captioned TV in the Campus Recreation Center.
- For classroom use, (West Campus) the instructor should contact Mike Berger from the Media Distribution Equipment Center, 753-0172 or (East Campus) Jan Diem at Technical Services, Williston Basement, 753-0173.
Auditorium Assistive Listening Systems
Assistive listening system receivers can be checked out at the Holmes Student Center Hotel Desk for the following locations:
- Carl Sandburg Auditorium, Holmes Student Center
- Duke Ellington Ballroom, Holmes Student Center
Assistive listening devices can be checked out in the following locations:
- Danielson Auditorium, Wirtz Hall, Wirtz podium, ask instructor, box is labeled
- Boutell Concert Hall, Music Building, for concerts – request from usher, leave ID
- Barsema Auditorium, Barsema Hall, Barsema 228 front desk
