Northern Illinois University provides sign language interpreters or Computer Access Real Time (CART) captioning when needed by an individual that is involved in any programs, services, or activities conducted by the University. The Disability Resource Center (DRC) is funded to provide this service to eligible, enrolled students for their academic activities. For other activities, or when a non-student requests interpreting services, the department conducting the program, service, or activity is responsible to fund the cost of the interpreting services.
No Show/Cancellation Policy
You must notify in advance if you will not be attending or if the event you have requested services for is canceled or changed.
For students who would like to request an interpreter or captioning services, please agree to policy by clicking below, fill out the request form, and the Coordinator will contact you in regards to your request.
For community members or patrons (non-student) who would like to request an interpreter or captioning service, please contact the department or campus unit sponsoring the event. If you are unsure who to contact, please call DRC at 815-753-1303 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
For University events or departmental requests which require an interpreter or captioning services, the sponsoring entity will need to submit the Interpreter or Request Form at least 10 business days in advance by clicking below and filling out the request form. The Interpreter/Captioning Coordinator will contact you in regards to your request.
*If a request is submitted less than the required number of business days prior to the event there is no guarantee we can procure services. All attempts will be made. (To cancel services, notify the Coordinator or call the DRC office at 815-753-1303 no less than 48 hours prior to the start of the scheduled event. In case of lesser notification, the event sponsor will be charged at the identified hourly rate for the minimum number of hours stipulated.
