Academic Fairs – NIU hosts hundreds of area junior high and high school students for annual History and Science Fairs.
America Reads – provides one-on-one tutoring for elementary school students in the DeKalb area who are struggling with reading.
Campus Visits - Hundreds of DeKalb and Sycamore students visit NIU's colleges with their classmates for a full day of learning about health careers, engineering, media studies and encouragement that college is possible for everyone.
CEET Robotics – NIU Robotics Club members mentor DeKalb High School robotics club members, while CEET staff work with the DHS club members as advisors.
CEET Student Partnerships – NIU student members of the Society for Women Engineers, the National Society of Black Engineers, and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers visit area high schools to talk about engineering and perform engineering demonstrations.
Counseling by Student Interns - Between 25 and 30 students in NIU's counseling program perform internships at local school and in area social service agencies, providing more than 600 hours of service each semester.

Econ Illinois/Stock Market Game – Area schools get a curricular boost from NIU’s economic education programs.
High School Anatomy Program – NIU’s Department of Biology provides a short course in human anatomy for area high school students who are interested in a biology.
Large-Scale Events – High school graduations, athletic contests, music competitions and many other large events are routinely hosted in NIU’s biggest venues. Other examples include the annual Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE) competition hosted by the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology and Destination Imagination hosted by NIU's P-20 Center.

NIU Service Leaders - NIU students provide tutoring and mentoring services to students at Clinton Rosette Middle School and Sycamore High School under this federal work-study program.
Professional Development for Educators – NIU experts work with DeKalb-area teachers to improve teaching skills and help them meet high expectations for students.
Reaching Out Through Art and Reading (ROAR) – NIU undergraduates in the College of Education use read-aloud events, art and science to help children at Littlejohn Elementary School improve their English language skills.
Regional P-20 Network – collaborates with many schools and community colleges across the region on actions to improve students' preparation for success in college and careers.
STEM Outreach – delivers off-campus programs and on-campus activities to increase K-12 students’ interest in and understanding of science, technology, engineering and math. Annual STEMFest event attracts 7,500+ area residents.
St. Mary’s School – NIU art education students help 3rd – 7th-grade students at St. Mary’s School in DeKalb to build cultural and visual literacy through art.
