Alcohol and Other Drugs Task Force - NIU's Office of Wellness Promotion is leading conversations with area police, medical personnel, mental health practitioners and campus representatives from Greek and Student Life to coordinate responses to drug and alcohol abuse in the area.

Big Brothers & Big Sisters - NIU's Department of Police and Public Safety is partnering with DeKalb County Family Service Agency to develop a program to have NIU police officers engage "at-risk" youth in DeKalb by exposing them to police officers as mentors and encouraging pre-teen and teen youths to attend college.

Citizens Police Academy (CPA) - NIU's Department of Police and Public Safety implemented a CPA with attendees ranging from students, staff, faculty, and DeKalb community members to build trust in law enforcement and provide insight into daily police operations.

Community/Regional Disaster Drills and Training - NIU partners with local, state and national law enforcement for county-wide disaster drills.  They also do multi-jurisdictional incident command with local, state and federal partners.

Co-policing - NIU and DeKalb departments engage in various co-policing efforts including joint ride-alongs, incident back-up, joint response and shared resources.

Identity Theft Task Force - NIU and DeKalb police are working together on campaigns aimed at preventing identity theft.

Self-Defense Courses - NIU's Department of Police and Public Safety and community partners hold Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) training for girls and women of all ages.

Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) - NIU's  Department of Police and Public Safety, T9 and Student Conduct are participating in a newly formed DeKalb County SART working group to provide a collaborative response to sexual assults across the county.
