Celebrating Abilities in Physical Education (CAPE) - A community service program that offers individualized instruction to children with special needs, CAPE emphasizes gross motor development, health related physical fitness, lifetime sports, play-social skills, aquatics and dance-creative movement.

Child Development Lab & Campus Child Care - NIU has a long history of extending these award-winning child care programs to members of the local community.

Community Counseling Training Center - Free counseling services provided to the local DeKalb community including general evaluations, assistance with relaxation techniques, self-esteem building skills, communication and relational skills, individual and relationship counseling. When appropriate, referrals are offered.

Community Membership at Rec Center & Field House - DeKalb and Sycamore residents are invited to purchase low-cost fitness memberships to the NIU Recreation Center and Field House facility.

Couple and Family Therapy Clinic - provides high-quality, affordable mental health services for people across the lifespan experiencing a wide range of difficulties.

DeKalb County Community Gardens – NIU students, faculty and staff make up a substantial number of the volunteers that keep this important new community initiative alive. In addition to creating and tending three on-campus gardens, volunteers work at 30+ other locations throughout the county, producing hundreds of tons of fresh produce for low-income residents.

Fitness Assessment, Consulting and Technology (FACT) - FACT provides fitness evaluation resources for local residents using advanced testing equipment and cutting-edge software to provide clients with precise physical assessments.

Fitness Images Today (FIT) Program

Oak Crest Partnership - NIU Kinesiology and Physical Education students provide personal  training and group fitness instruction to more than 100 senior residents of DeKalb's Oak Crest Retirement Center. This program is currently in its 25th year.

Physical Activity and Life Skills Group (PALS) - The PALS Group promotes healthy development and learning life skills though physical activity to children and youth in the DeKalb-Sycamore area.

Physical Therapy Clinic - provides evaluation and treatment of acute and chroic musculoskletal conditions for both NIU students and local residents.

Psychological Services Center - provides psychological services to residents throughout northern Illinois.

Smoke-Free NIU

Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic - This highly-ranked program extends its services into the community with a wide variety of programs, including newborn hearing screenings, aphasia support, hearing aid orientation and a stroke support group.
