Enrolling as a freshman simply requires registering for MILS 101 in the fall semester or MILS 102 in the spring semester. If you are transferring into NIU from another college or university, please contact the Recruiting Operations Officer (753-7682) to determine which class you should register for.
Those with prior service or who are currently in the Army Reserves or National Guard receive constructive credit for the Basic Course and do not have to take the 100 and 200 level MILS course. However, students in this position will not be able to take the 300 level courses until they are academic juniors. It is recommended that prior service/currently serving students who are not academic juniors take at least one MILS course prior to contracting.
If you are a student at Kishwaukee Community College or Waubonsee Community College, you may take the first two years of ROTC through NIU. See your academic counselor for more information or call the NIU ROTC office.
