There is to be no possession or consumption of alcohol or illegal substances at any time on any Campus Recreation or Outdoor Adventures sponsored trip or activity.
Participants found to be in possession of either alcohol or illegal substances, regardless of age, may be asked to leave the trip or may have limited participation for the remainder of the trip.
The Outdoor Adventure Trip Leader has full authority and will determine sanctions or penalties related to the trip.
The Assistant Director for Outdoor Adventure and/or designated representative will determine further sanctions beyond the penalties administered by the Outdoor Adventures Attendant or Outdoor Adventure Trip Leader. Violators are typically suspended from Outdoor Adventure trips and rentals for the remaining semester or future semester(s).
There are no exceptions to this policy (i.e., birthdays, holidays, drinks with dinner, etc).\
Additionally, violation(s) will be referred to the Student Judicial Office for further action.
These policies are in effect from the moment of arrival on the premises of the Student Recreation Center and NIU parking lots, during the trip, and until the return to Campus Recreation upon trip completion.
These policies protect participants, staff, and others they encounter from the dangers of using alcohol and drugs during an Outdoor Trip activity. The negative effects of alcohol and drug usage can place people in extremely hazardous situations. The safest way to experience any trip is with a clear mind.
