Mary Petrzilka

B.A. 2009, Anthropology - Northern Illinois University

Academic Biography:

Q. What is your focus of research? The focus of my research will be in Environmental Anthropology, and I am also exploring topics in Visual Anthropology as well.

Q. Why did you choose NIU? I choose NIU because I was interested in obtaining the departmental certificate in Applied Anthropology to compliment my M.A. The program constructed for the Applied Anthropology Certificate will accentuate my interests in Environmental and Visual Anthropology, and make them purposeful.

Q. Who is your advisor? Why did you choose to work with this professor? I chose Dr. Thu as my advisor because of his work involving/connecting Environmental Studies and Applied Anthropology. Dr. Thu is helpful and suggestive in presenting students with new ideas and helpful resources.

Q. What advice would you like to share with incoming students?  Know the resources available to you and how to use them. Mr. Ridinger in the library is an extremely helpful anthropology resource in teaching students how to navigate and find what the NIU library has to offer students in their research. The more knowledge you have of your resources and options the better work you will produce.
