Student Success Collaborative

What is the Student Success Collaborative?

NIU is part of the Educational Advisory Board's Student Success Collaborative (SSC) which aims to improve student success, retention and graduation rates on college campuses.

The Student Success Collaborative combines technology, research, and predictive analytics to help institutions positively inflect outcomes with at-risk and off-path students (Educational Advisory Board, 2012). The collaborative provides NIU advisors and other pertinent departments with a software system that allows them to:

  • Identify and prioritize students needing extra assistance in critical foundational coursework
  • Pull forward difficult conversations with students who may be at-risk in their chosen degree
  • Simplify intervention by aggregating previously disparate data into a 360-view of student health
  • Evaluate and compare alternative major decisions based on predicted academic performance

How it works

The Student Success Collaborative uses predictive analytics to alert advisors if a student is veering off path for graduation in the desired major. The tool predicts a student’s successful progress by making comparisons to the pace of students who have successfully graduated in the desired major over the past 10 years.
