Application Deadlines

Reentering, Visiting and Post-Baccalaureate Students

Former NIU students applying for Reinstatement, students changing to degree status, and transfer students petitioning for review of an admission decision must have applications and all supporting documents on file in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions by the following dates:

Complete Your Application

Typically, Reentering and Post-Baccalaureate status students apply to start at NIU during a Fall or Spring Semester, while most Visiting students apply traditionally for Summer Sessions.  Applicants may choose the semester or session they desire to apply for admissions consideration.

Complete applications are those files which contain:

1. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
2. Completed application for undergraduate admission
3. $40 application fee (Non-Refundable)
4. All required supporting documents.

If you cannot attend the initial semester for which you applied, we will hold your official transcripts and other documents for one year from the date of receipt of these documents. 

Applicants who wish to change their initial semester of application to another NIU semester within the same calendar year must submit a new application but do not need to submit another application fee.  If you wish to attend NIU for a semester in a future new calendar year, then you will need to submit a new application and a new fee payment for that application.

Applicants petitioning for Reinstatement consideration, who desire to change their semester of application for reinstatement must submit a new application for the new semester desired, a new reinstatement petiton letter for the new semester desired, any new required supporting documents, and continue to meet all requirements for a reinstatement consideration.

Criteria & Requirements

• Former NIU students seeking readmission, reinstatement or reentrance are those who have previously taken undergraduate course work at NIU.
• Visiting Students are those who are admitted to NIU on a temporary basis to take courses for one academic semester or summer session.
• Postbaccalaureate Students are those who hold baccalaureate degrees from an accredited U.S. college or university, or from a recognized foreign institution, and wish to take additional undergraduate courses or to earn a second baccalaureate degree.

The application fee is $40.00, payable by check or money order only, when using the paper application.
