DeKalb, Ill. — Public service announcements for Better Hearing & Speech Month provided by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association say it all.
“More than twenty-one million infants, children and adults in America suffer from some degree or hearing loss in one or both ears,” the promotional materials state. “Such hearing impairments can go unsuspected until the sounds of daily life become faded or unrecognizable.”
To celebrate Better Hearing & Speech Month, Northern Illinois University’s Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic is providing free hearing aid services and hearing screenings in DeKalb.
Audiologists will clean and check hearing aids at Barb City Manor (Monday, May 18), Oak Crest Retirement Center (Wednesday, May 20) and the Grand Victorian (Thursday, May 28). All services are free and will take place from 9 to 10:30 a.m. those days.
Free hearing screenings are scheduled at the clinic, located in the NIU Family Health, Wellness and Literacy Center at 3100 Sycamore Road, from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 19. To schedule an appointment, call (815) 753-1481.
