DeKalb — Lyndsey Soithong-Koutsoures, a Northern Illinois University senior drawing major and bachelor of fine arts candidate, will exhibit her works in two local shows this month.
The B.F.A. group show will take place in the Olsen Gallery of the Arends Art Building on NIU’s DeKalb campus from Dec. 5 to13; and her solo exhibition, “Exposed and Undone,” will be held from Dec. 1 through 27 at the DeKalb Area Women’s Center OnStage Gallery.
Soithong-Koutsoures has been producing art since she was 3, and her family considers her artistic nature to be a gift passed down through generations. Using oils and mixed media to portray her life experiences through vibrant colors and a unique style, Soithong-Koutsoures’ work is fun and sentimental. It reflects who she is as a person, including a strong influence from her Mexican and Thai ancestries. There is also a presence of self-discovery.
The public is invited to view the exhibit from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1; from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, during the DAWC Holiday Craft Fair; from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 15 and 22; from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12; or by appointment with Anna Marie Coveny, gallery director. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
The DAWC is located at 1021 State Street in DeKalb. Parking is available one-half block south of the building off of Eleventh Street. The handicapped accessible lift can be reached from the alley north of the building. For further information or to arrange a group showing, call (815) 758-1351.
