Resources & Support After Hours and Ouside of NIU
If you should find yourself or one of your friends feeling depressed and alone, friends and support are only a phone call away. The LGBT Resource Center at NIU aims to create an inclusive campus community by providing support services, educational programs, and advocacy, but know assistance may be needed after hours or during university breaks. The following is a selected list of resources that may provide help. This list is not meant to take the place of calling emergency services in crisis situations.
The LGBT Resource Center hours are listed below.
Regular Hours: Our offices are open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except when the university is closed for holidays.
Special Summer Hours: Most summers NIU operates on a four-day summer schedule during part of June, all of July, and part of August. During this time, offices are open Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and are closed on Friday.
You can contact us at 815-753-5428 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org to ask for assistance.
The NIU Counseling & Student Development Center provides regular services through the school year, with the same four-day summer schedule in effect during part of June, all of July, and part of August. During office hours, a CSDC staff member is available to assist with emergencies and/or crisis situations. Contact Counselling and Student Development Center(CSDC) at 815-753-1206. If you need to talk to someone after regular office hours, an on-call counselor is always available. Just call NIU University Police at 815-753-1212 for instructions on how to contact a counselor (the Police only serve as an answering service to relay messages; they do not get involved in the situation).
