I. Purpose

To terminate students who are no longer eligible for student employment due to insufficient enrollment.

II. Policy

In accordance with the State University Civil Service System, Statute and Rules and NIU Board of Trustee Regulations students are required to be enrolled in at least one-half of the normal workload of a regularly enrolled full-time student to be considered for Student Employment.  At Northern Illinois University it has been determined that one-half of the normal workload of a regularly enrolled full-time student is six credit hours.

Procedure

The department will be notified via e-mail of students that are no longer enrolled for enough hours and that paperwork either transferring the student to extra-help or terminating them will need to be received by the deadline indicated.  The deadline date will be the next payroll deadline from the date of notification.

If paperwork is not received, the student will be administratively terminated by the Student Employment office and a notice will be sent to the department that this transaction has occurred.

Departments should not continue to work students once notification has been received.
